    • 1). Insert a blank disk (a floppy disk, CD, or DVD) into your drive (please note you must have a CD burner to write CDs and a DVD burner to write DVDs). Exit out of any auto-play options that pop up and click on "My Computer."

    • 2). Find your disk under the words "Devices with removable storage" and right-click on it. Select "Format" from the menu that appears after you right-click. Check the box next to the words "Create a Windows Start Up Disk," then, click the "Format" button and it will make a boot disk with the media you inserted into your computer be it a floppy disk, a CD or a DVD.

    • 3). Wait for it to finish making your boot disk and when it finishes, shut down your computer with the disk in the drive. Watch your computer when it turns on for a message that says "Press __ to enter setup" where "__" is a specific key on the keyboard. Press that key and under the words "Boot order" make sure that "Removable devices" is first within the list. If it isn't, make it the first and press "ESC." Then, select "Save changes and exit."

    • 4). Wait for your computer to reboot and display the message, "Press any key to boot from disk." At that point, press any key and it will boot up a command prompt.

    • 5). Enter in the command "# fixmbr" and press "Enter." Next, enter in the command "# exit" and press "Enter." Wait for your computer to turn off. Remove the disk from the drive, and turn on your PC. When it boots up, you'll find Grub has been removed with Windows XP.
