    Types

    • Three principle types of pear trees are commonly grown in the United States, European or French pears, Oriental hybrids, and Asian pears. Ornamental -- or flowering -- pear trees are also grown. The eventual width of a pear tree is dependent on the specific variety.

    Ornamental

    • An ornamental pear, the Chanticleer, Pyrus calleryana Chanticleer, achieves a mature width of between 16 and 25 feet. The height of the tree typically stretches 25 to 35 feet, with both dependent on proper environmental conditions like full sun and nutritious soil.

    Other Varieties

    • Other varieties, like the Kieffer, Pyrus communis x P. portfolio, achieve a mature width of 12 to 20 feet, while the Bartlett pear tree -- one of the most commonly grown in the United States -- also matures to a canopy spread of between 12 and 20 feet with a height of the same number.
