Holi is one time when people do away with inhibitions and take liberties.
But how much is too much? Does one need to draw a line somewhere? Holi is a festival of colors and love-a day to forget all differences and get together.
So far so good! But have you ever thought about its flip side? Everything is not rosy, if one forgets to draw a line.
There are many instances when this so-called festival of spirit spoils the whole spirit itself.
From a color game, Holi gets on to become a 'hurting' game.
There are times when people play all pranks-decent and indecent under the grab of festival mood.
The vulgarity ranges from forceful physical contact, to beating up people, to playing dangerous pranks of mixing intoxicants in drinks and food.
People deliberately get insensitive towards others.
People ignore the anxieties and problems of others.
They simple want to have fun at the expense of others rather than having fun with others.
While a few people are up to creating mischief, there are others whose festive spirit gets spoilt because of this, You step out on the road and people forcefully put color on you, throw water balloons and some even end up tearing your clothes.
All this hooliganism starts days before Holi and continues till days later.
It is very unfortunate indeed.
While the festival of colors plays the spoilsport for some, Holi also has some negative side to it when it comes to the environment.
The wood that is set to burn Holika not only wastes a lot of wood, but also creates pollution through many non-combustible and non-degradable items.
People add rubber items, plastic bags and clothes to the pyre.
People get insensitive towards respecting others, space and go on to spoil homes, gardens and vehicles of other by splashing colors on them.
Lastly, it will not be an exaggeration to say that the festival is losing its true colors and is confining itself to become a source of fun.
Not that it is wrong; but at the cost of esteem and space of others, is what we need to think about.
