How to Plant Canna Lilies in Florida
- 1). Place the canna lily seeds in a bowl of hot water. Allow them to soak for two days.
- 2). Plant the canna lily where it will get full sun for six hours a day.
- 3). Poke 2-inch deep holes into the soil with your finger. Space the holes 6 to 18 inches from each other on all sides.
- 4). Insert two seeds into each hole. Cover them with soil. Add organic soil and compost to the planting site, if possible. Aim for a ratio of 20 percent compost to soil as a general rule.
- 5). Water the plots daily to achieve a moist soil. Seedlings should appear in about two weeks. Water more heavily, keeping the soil wet, after the seedlings appear.
- 6). Fertilize the flowers once a month with an organic 20-20-20 fertilizer .Follow label instructions for dosage details.
- 7). Remove any stems or petals that become infected with mold, fungus or insects. Inspect the lilies almost daily, especially in late spring and summer.
