- 1). Click on "Start" and choose "All Programs." Select "Windows Update." Click "Review your update history." Find the update with a red cross mark next it. Click on the red cross mark to view the installation error code. Make note of this number.
- 2). Click "Go to Knowledge Base articles" in the main window of Windows Updates. Enter the installation error code in the search box and click on "Search." You will find a Microsoft KB link. Click the link and follow the step-by-step prompt to troubleshoot the specific error that your SP3 installation may have.
- 3). Click Start and select "Run..." Type "MRT" and hit "Enter" to open "Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool." Choose "Full Scan" to run a complete scan of your computer. This tool will be able to remove any malicious program that may be preventing the SP3 updates. Follow the guided prompts to remove such programs.
