    • 1). Ensure the Maytag washing machine is firmly plugged in to a grounded, 3-prong outlet that is functional. Remove other appliances from the outlet, and reset the fuse or circuit breaker if needed. Never plug a washing machine into an extension cord for power.

    • 2). Verify that both water valves are turned on and the water inlet hoses are not clogged. Clear the hose screens, and turn the water valves counterclockwise to open them.

    • 3). Turn the washer control knob to a wash cycle, and pull it out in a firm motion to initiate the cycle. The washing machine will not work if the knob is not pulled out or turned to point at a cycle.

    • 4). Shut the washer lid firmly and listen to make sure it clicks into place. Wipe the latch clean if debris is preventing the lid from shutting. The washer will not agitate or spin if the lid is is not completely closed.

    • 5). Clean the drain hose of any debris that may be preventing the washer from draining correctly, and pull the hose gently to straighten it.

    • 6). Verify that laundry detergent has been placed in the detergent drawer prior use in order to clean the clothes. However, do not overfill the detergent drawer with too much detergent, as this can inhibit proper function. Run a rinse cycle to clear away the excess detergent if necessary.

    • 7). Contact Maytag for additional help if the problem persists.
