Harry Potter Movie Actor - The Return of the Prodigal Player
The actor had famously turned down a role in the boy wizard franchise six years ago.
Frequently mistaken for an American because of his knack at mimicking accents, actor Tim Roth was born Timothy Simon Smith in London, England on May 14, 1961 to mother Ann, a teacher and landscape painter, and father Ernie, a journalist who changed the family name to "Roth".
His father adopted the German surname Roth after World War II to hide his nationality when traveling in countries hostile to the British.
Tim grew up in Dulwich, a middle-class area in the south of London.
He amply demonstrated his talent for picking up accents at an early age when he attended school in Brixton, where he was bullied and shunned by classmates for his comfortable background.
He quickly cultivated a cockney accent to blend in.
Having been nominated for Outstanding Newcomer at BAFTA Awards for THE HIT in (1985), Roth's big break came when he was cast as Mr.
Orange in Director Quentin Tarantino's ensemble, piece Reservoir Dogs in 1992.
He received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his first mainstream-Hollywood film performance in ROB ROY (1995).
He was later nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture at Golden Globe Awards for ROB ROY (1996) and was also nominated for Best Villain at MTV Movie Awards for PLANET OF THE APES (2002).
Tim Roth was offered the part of Severus Snape in the movie adaptations of the Harry Potter books.
He, however, dropped out of contention for the role of Severus Snape in order to pursue his role as General Thade in Tim Burton's adaptation of PLANET OF THE APES (2001).
The role of Severus Snape was ultimately given to Alan Rickman.
Roth now maintains that he wants to get involved in the remaining films, The Half Blood Prince and/or The Deathly Hallows because his three sons Jack, Timothy and Cormac (Jack Ernest, Timothy Hunter and Michael Cormac) are big Harry Potter fans.
He says, "I had various reasons for not doing it before but I'd probably do something like that if it were offered to me now.
I've got three kids.
" We all know that the first five movies based on the first five books have already been released.
Moreover, Harry Potter and The Order Of The Phoenix DVD version has just been released on December 11, 2007.
Considering that no major character has been introduced in the sixth book, he might get a chance to play a role in the seventh and the last movie Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows based on the last book of the series.
Two major characters who play important roles in the story have been introduced in the final book.
One is that of Aberforth Dumbledore, younger brother of Albus Dumbledore, but that role is already being portrayed by Jim McManus.
The second major character introduced in the seventh book is that of Gellert Grindelwald.
A Dark wizard who is second only to Lord Voldemort in the list of Most Dangerous Dark Wizards of All Time.
Grindelwald's name is fairly well known in the wizarding world.
His name is first mentioned on Albus Dumbledore's Chocolate Frog card, which notes that Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald in 1945.
J.
K.
Rowling has also recently made it known that Dumbledore shared a gay relationship with Grindelwald.
For all you know, Tim Roth might just end up playing the role of Grindewlad.
