The History of Dirt Devil Vacuums
- In 1905 a company named P.A. Geier was producing metal vacuum cleaners in the backyard of its founder Mr. Geier. Geier created and sold the vacuum cleaners and eventually made enough income to move his business to a four story factory.
- After moving into the factory, the P.A. Geier Company produced the world's first hand held vacuum and named it the Royal Prince.
- By 1954 the Royal Prince Company was brought out by the Walter E. Schott organization. This organization renamed the company and called it Royal Appliance Manufacturing. Eventually the employees bought out the company and implemented new strategies and marketing in order to increase sales.
- The Dirt Devil came into existence in the early 1980's under the Royal Appliance Manufacturing Company. This hand-held vacuum went on to become the best selling hand-held vacuum in the United States.
- The Royal Appliance Manufacturing Company was purchased in 2003 by a Hong Kong based company named TTI Floor Care North America, and through their efforts Dirt Devil is now known all over the globe. Their philosophy of having reasonably priced, high quality vacuuming products is one of the reasons why the Dirt Devil Brand has been so successful.
