Lavender Cotton Plant Care
- Plant lavender cotton in the spring or fall, spacing plants 1 foot apart in well-drained, even, sandy soil. Dig a hole to accommodate your plant, place it in the hole and backfill with soil. Compact the soil to remove any air pockets and water thoroughly.
- Lavender cotton is very drought tolerant so regular watering isn't necessary. To encourage a more dense appearance, prune after the plant is done flowering. These plants can also be clipped into shape at any time during the summer months, but they may not rebloom until the following year.
- In moist soil, lavender cotton can become leggy and sprawling. Avoid soil that is too moist. Each spring, before blooming begins, trim back the entire plant to the older, woody growth.
Lavender cotton is another plant to add to your list of deer-resistant perennials.
