    • 1). Turn off the power to the existing ceiling light at the house fuse junction box.

    • 2). Remove the screws that hold the light fixture to the ceiling, taking it down enough to expose the electrical box above it. Disconnect the wires between the old light fixture and the electrical box.

    • 3). Set the installation plate for your new Hampton Bay fan onto the electrical box, securing it there with the screws that came with the kit. The electrical box will have standard screw holes that will match those of the bracket.

    • 4). Affix the copper ground wire from the electrical box to the green grounding screw that's on the installation plate. Tighten up the screw.

    • 5). Put your Hampton Bay fan together on the floor, assembling everything except the blades. Carry the motor unit up the ladder and hang it from the installation plate by the hook on the edge of the plate, by the hole on the side of the motor. The motor should hang so the wires coming out the top of it are near the wires coming down from the electrical box.

    • 6). Twist a wire cap around the two ends of the black wires -- one from the fan and one from the electrical box -- to connect them together. Do the same with the white wire from the fan and the white wire from the box. If your fan has a blue wire (for a light), including that wire in the connection with the two black wires.

    • 7). Raise the fan motor unit up to the installation plate and affix it there with the provided screws. The motor unit should be flush up to the ceiling.

    • 8). Restore the power and test the fan motor and light, if there is one. If they work, install the fan blades, clipping them in place by their preset fasteners.
