    • 1). Divide the room into separate areas to organize. Set aside several days to organize the space instead of trying to do it all at once. Break it down so it won't be overwhelming.

    • 2). Sort out your son's belongings. Label three boxes with "keep", "throw away" and "give away". Place corresponding items in the boxes as you go through each section.

    • 3). Use plastic containers with lids to organize toys, such as cars, video games and sports equipment. Label each container so that your son can easily put items away and find them. Use small plastic shoe boxes for small cars, pens, pencils or crayons. Designate a place for everything so there will be less clutter. Store the containers within reach for easy clean up.

    • 4). Attach a small basketball goal above a laundry basket or bag for dunking clothes. Hang the hoop over a door and have a hamper directly under the rim. This makes putting away dirty clothes fun.

    • 5). Schedule a 15-minute clean up every night before your son goes to bed. Have him put away all of his belongings so that clutter will remain at a minimum.
