    Making See-Through Text

    • Typically, the best time to use see-through text is when you want to liven up a picture. Open the image you want to put the text over. Then select the "Text" tool, and click on your image where you want to place your text. Now choose the font and font size you want to use, check floating, and check antialias. For text effects, make sure the text color is white. Type your desired text, and then click "OK." You may then move the text around to where you want it to be place if the "Text" tool is still active. Make sure the "Text" tool is still selected, and then click on "S elections/save" to the "Alpha Channel." Click "OK." From here, go to "Selections," and click "Promote Layer." Now create a new layer by selecting "Layers > New Rastor Layer." With this new layer active, load your selection from the alpha channel ("Selections > Load > Alpha Channel"). Then go to "Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow." Settings work differently based on what image you are putting the text on, so adjust accordingly. Change the opacity on the "Promoted Selection" layer to whatever suits the image.

    Saving for the Web

    • Typically, .JPEG images are the most common and universal image types on the Internet. So to host this image somewhere, compress the file size to make the image load faster when being viewed. Go to "Layers > Merge > Visible." Your picture should be all set to run at a fast speed online, except now you must save it as a .JPEG so your visitors can actually view it. Save the file as a .jpeg when naming the file after editing. You can select .jpeg from the file type options if you do not feel like typing it out, or are having trouble with the file actually saving as a .jpeg.
