- 1). Power on your computer. Place the setup CD that came with your Labtec webcam into your computer's disc drive. Click on the button labeled "Install Device Driver," and then follow the instructions that appear on your monitor screen to install the Labtec webcam software.
- 2). Connect the Labtec webcam's USB cable into any of the available USB ports on your computer when the installation instructions prompt you to do so. Click on the "Close and Restart" button, and then wait for your computer to shut down and restart.
- 3). Open the program that you want to use to initiate a video chat session such as Yahoo Messenger or MSN Messenger. Click on the video chat option and then click on "Browse" when the program prompts you to find the video device attached to your computer. Click on the entry for the USB port that your Labtec webcam is connected to. Click on the name of the contact that you want to initiate the video chat with.
- 4). Position the webcam so that its lens is facing toward you. Look into the webcam so the other party can see your face and speak toward the webcam so that its internal microphone picks up your voice. Turn the dial on the webcam's lens to zoom in on your face or any nearby objects so that the person on the other end of the video chat session can more clearly see the zoomed-in area.
- 5). Press down on the snapshot button below the zoom dial to take a picture of whatever is currently being viewed by the camera's lens. Click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and navigate to the "Labtec" folder on your computer's main hard drive to find the picture.
