Venetian Plaster Paint Technique
- 1). Pour latex paint into a large aluminum foil baking pan. Fill the pan nearly full to reduce your need to mix more paint.
- 2). Squeeze a small amount of black or brown universal tint into one side of the pan.
- 3). Stir the universal tint into the paint on one side of the pan. Try to avoid spreading the tint through all of the paint so that the paint on one side is noticeably darker than the other. You can add more tint as necessary to create your desired colors.
- 4). Dip a plastic trowel into the lightest shade of paint in the tray.
- 5). Spread the paint onto the wall with your trowel in a back-and-forth motion. Scrape the paint flat with the trowel to avoid drips and work as if you were spreading plaster onto the wall.
- 6). Dip your trowel into the darker color and apply it to the wall with the same technique you used with the lighter paint. The key is to create darker and lighter areas on the wall to simulate the look of venetian plaster.
- 7). Rub the edge of the trowel back and forth over the wall when you finish applying the paint. This blends the colors together gently.
