Wire Specifications

• Titanium welding wire is covered by the American Welding Society specification sheet. This sheet details the various types of titanium welding wire and their suitability for various tasks, as well as the actual chemical composition of the different wires: wires may contain a number of different metals such as copper, titanium, and other base metals. Each wire is also rated as to what alloy of titanium it can safely and securely hold.
  
  

Welding Technique

• One of the most important steps to bare welding titanium properly is to use the proper welding technique. Most of the welding techniques developed by the American Welding Society are designed for machine welding, but the same types of consistency apply to manual welding. Proper arc control, proper wire feed speed, and the proper angle of the torch as well as proper amperage of the welding equipment are all required to weld the various titanium alloys.
  
  

Food Grade Titanium Alloys

• Food grade titanium alloys require a different set of welding techniques in order to properly and safely be accomplished. For example, use a wire grade that is one grade lower than the titanium that you are welding, when you are bare welding food grade titanium equipment. You can normally match the grade of the wire to the grade of the titanium unless you are using them in a food grade application.
  
  

Low Temperatures

• In order to make the best possible bare metal weld with titanium or titanium alloys, you will want to keep the welding temperature set as low as possible to effectively complete the weld without additional shielding being required. In this way you will decrease spatter and discoloration of the area around the weld.
