How to Replace a Clothes Washer Hose
- 1). Find the connection box above or behind your washer where the hoses connect to the water supply. Turn them both off by turning the faucets clockwise. Get a small mop bucket or container that will hold 2 gallons of water or more and place it beside the washer. Check to make sure your washer has completed its cycle and unplug it from the wall. Gently scoot it corner by corner being careful not to scratch the floor. Make sure there is about 18 inches of clearance between the wall and the washer.
- 2). Loosen the hoses from the faucets. The hose connections may be too tight to loosen by hand. If that is the case, gently apply the channel lock pliers to the fitting until they are loose. Take off a single hose from the faucet.
- 3). Place the end of that hose in the bucket and trace the other end back to the washer. Now remove that end using the channel lock pliers if you need to. When the hose comes loose from the washer hold it above your head, draining it into the bucket.
- 4). Wrap the threads of the faucet and the receiver faucet on the washer that you just exposed with at least two layers of Teflon tape. Check the old hose. If it has a blue line it is the cold water hose. Get out the new hose with the blue line and screw it firmly onto the washer faucet receiver. Screw the other end firmly to the faucet on the wall.
- 5). Remove the other hose and repeat the procedure by wrapping both threads with Teflon tape and screwing on the new hose. Tighten everything by hand. Tuck the new hoses back behind the washer. Slide the washer back where it was. Turn on the faucets slowly, checking for leaks. If there are leaks, gently use the channel locks to tighten. If there are still leaks, remove the hose, wrap more tape and retighten.
