Indian weddings are famous worldwide for their vibrancy and magnificence. Indian Weddings is the union of two likeminded hearts. It is a bond of two people for a lifetime commitment and also between two families. The main charm of the Indian Marriages  lays in its many ceremonies and rituals which results in social bindings and lifelong commitments. Sangeet Ceremony forms an integral part of the Pre Wedding Ceremonies and one of the most enjoyable ceremonies before the wedding in India. Previously it was solely celebrated by North Indian families. However in recent times Sangeet has made its presence felt even in South India. The sangeet ceremony is also known as ‘gaun'.In the earlier days the custom of gaun used to last for ten days but with the passage of time, as people didn't have more time to spend due to demanding work schedules, the custom has usually reduced to a one night function.

Traditionally the Sangeet Ceremonies are very much a part of the formal engagement or the Sagaai program that takes place a few days before the main wedding. Sangeet Ceremonies are usually held after The Mehendi Ceremony. The women folk of the household play an active part in this. They gather around the bride. This is followed by fun, frolic, dance and traditional wedding songs. Women enjoy themselves to the fullest, making the environment light. Ladies crack jokes, tease the bride, merrily reminisce their youthful days and bless the girl for a prosperous married life. The song and dance is followed by elaborate dining arrangements. The sangeet party is organized only by the bride's family but with changing times it is now observed by the groom's family as well.

Traditionally family of the bride invites female relatives and associates for Ladies sangeet, wherein all of them sing folk songs dedicated to marriage and bride. It is accompanied by Dholak and spoon, for the tune and beat. At the bride's home women relatives and friends play the dholki and sing suhaag, which is a traditional folk song. Songs include 'jokes' about the in-laws, and would be husband how to have a successful marriage like and songs about the bride leaving her parents home.Similarly the women at the groom's home sing songs called ghoriya. After this all the unmarried girls perform dance on different songs.The elder females become nostalgic and share their secrets to a blissful married life with the bride. Amidst the enjoyment, there is a pain of separation.  For both the bride and her mother, the ambience becomes a bit emotional as the bride has to leave her parent's house very soon. But in current time, Sangeet has given a new edge to the whole marriage ceremony. Professional help are also taken to prepare for the occasion to take care of everything in Sangeet from music to DJs, venue and of course the dress theme. Theme Sangeets are the in thing and generally relatives of the bride enact funny scenes with much vigor. The theme of these Sangeet Ceremonies inevitably revolves between the bride and groom- their love life, how they fell in love, how they met, and likewise. While some Sangeet ceremonies have a theme of Qawali nights and Ghazal evenings, others are purely set on Bollywood music and Retro nights. The dances held at the Sangeet are also getting innovative. Dance programs can range from classical or traditional to contemporary and modern. They can include folk dances or modern ‘item numbers' that have great significance in Indian pop culture today.

The Sangeet ceremony, like every other event of the pre-marriage celebrations requires planning, so that there are no glitches at the last moment. Given below are a few ideas which can incorporate to make the Sangeet ceremony all the more splendid:

While families of both the side join together to enjoy this ceremony, in other conservative societies, they enjoy it separately. Music and dancing have now become an integral part of the Indian wedding ceremony and the celebrations are incomplete without the same.
