- Drivers are software programs to make a computer's hardware work. The physical or mechanical parts of a computer (in this case, an Ethernet cable for a Dell 8400) don't know what to do without some instruction -- the programs on software tell the parts what to do and for how long to do it.
- Visit the Dell product support Drivers and Downloads website (see References). Older computer items sometimes get supplemented with other drivers, as it is a way to sidestep troubleshooting issues. Use the Dell support website to find alternate Ethernet drivers for a Dell 8400. Consult a product manual on the site. It may give you more options.
- Try to find additional Ethernet drivers for a Dell 8400 if you plan to expand your network dramatically. Call Dell's Technical Support anywhere worldwide and talk with a representative about possible costs for added hardware and drivers to accompany them.
