    Purpose

    • This act was designed to regulate the licensing of conveyancers. It sets forth the rules, requirements and obligations of conveyancers and for becoming a licensed conveyancer.

    Description

    • Conveyancing is legal work used for the sale or lease of land and with the sale of a business. It is also used with the sale of goodwill and stock trade business sales. Conveyancing work also includes legal work used in preparing documents regarding these sales and giving advice on the subject of sales of property and businesses.

    Requirements

    • This act sets forth requirements for conveyancers to become licensed. The Office of Fair Trading is the department responsible for licensing conveyancers. Some of the requirements are that an applicant must be 18 years old and the applicant must have completed an approved conveyancing course or hold a degree in law. The applicant must also have one year of practical training and must be covered by a professional indemnity insurance policy.
