- 1). Determine the necessary amendments. Amendments may include beneficiary changes, naming new trustees or successor trustees, or changing asset lists and gifting.
- 2). Talk to a trust attorney. Make sure that state probate and estate laws do not affect any of the changes you want to make.
- 3). Write the amendment to the trust. Alternatively, have an attorney write it for you if you are concerned about complicated changes and appropriate language. Title the page as "Amendment Dated," with the date included.
- 4). Sign and date the amendment before a notary public. The notary will confirm you are the person in question as the trustee authorized to sign the document.
- 5). Place the amendment after the last page of the trust document.
