- 1). Determine how much energy your grow lights will consume. Look at the box you bought the grow lights from to determine the amount of watts you need. Purchase a generator with more watts than the lights need.
- 2). Fill the generator with gas or connect it to the solar panels or wind turbine and turn it on.
- 3). Connect the extension cord to the generator and trail the cord into the room with the grow lights. Solar-and wind-powered generators can be inside, but gas-powered generators should always be outside and away from the home.
- 4). Plug the grow lights into the generator. Turn the grow lights on.
