Why We Should All Start to Earn Money From Blogs

I was in college when I first heard that you could earn money from blogs, though at the time I wasn't sure what a blog even was.
At the time, I was writing a lot for school, and beginning the process of building a portfolio so that I could actually make money working on something that made me happy.
What I didn't realize at the time was that there were hundreds of thousands of people who were in similar positions as I was: we were, many of us, students seeking unconventional means of employment that allowed of us to keep our own schedules and live independently of the 9-to-5 grind that sent so many in our parents' generation into long routines in which they suffered through their work in order to go home and sleep.
If I could find a way to earn money from blogs I was going to be writing anyway, I could both supplement my income and stay out of having to flip burgers while I got myself through college.
Well, I pretty much partied myself through college and now find myself in the middle of a massive recession where the 9-to-5 world is hemorrhaging the sorts of jobs that drove our parents to early retirement in the first place, so getting a job for some of these large conglomerates is out of the picture anyway.
Since I have to support myself in the first pplace and see no real options in the conventional workforce, I guess all the rambling I've been doing online since then should be able to evolve into a way to make some money.
In a market like this, opportunities must be found in seemingly unlikely places, and the blogosphere-- where anyone can exercise their rights to free expression online, some to an annoying effect and some to very profound ones-- is still getting tons of readers.
Blogging has minimal start-up costs, is quickly taking the paper-reading population by storm, and is open for business twenty-four hours a day.
With opportunity like that coupled with the constantly crumbling conventional job market, it's silly for those of us with passion and writing ability to ignore the possibility of making our livings through the medium.
