The internet today is filled with numerous blogs that are competing for the attention of internet users.
The number of blogs as of 2012 was estimated to be 160 million and naturally you would expect the number of blogs in 2013 to be greater than that.
Despite the astronomical number of internet users in the world today (over 2.
4 billion and counting), new bloggers are finding it hard to attract a significant number of visitors to their blogs.
There is however some steps that one can follow to make sure your blog stands out from the rest.
1.
Create High Quality Content
Internet users are always on the lookout for content that adds value.
Blogs that provide useful information and entertaining content like The Billfold or All Songs Considered always have thousands of visitors each week.
Supplying quality content not only keeps visitors engaged it also attracts a large number of visitors as people will share your blog on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.
2.
Identify Your Niche
Find a specific area you are interested in and blog about it.
Make your niche as specific as possible.
Bloggers who write about general topics like technology or health and fitness find it harder to compete with other well established blogs.
This is because the well established blogs rank higher in Google and people are more likely to read content from reliable sources.
Finding a specific low level niche will make it easier for you to establish a blog that stands out from other blogs in the same field.
3.
Be Passionate About What You Do
Never be afraid to show your passion.
People will relate with you easier if you open up and show them your point of view.
This is perhaps why most controversial blogs have such a huge following.
It does not matter whether people hate or like what you say, they will always be curious to find out what you are going to say or do next.
Being too expressive however will do more harm than good.
The key is to express your views in a way that is clear yet unforgettable.
4.
Be Unique
Find something that sets you apart from other blogs in your niche and use it to your advantage.
All great blogs have unique styles that set them apart from the rest; styles that have helped them develop and preserve a loyal following.
5.
Originality Is Key
People are always turned off when they visit a blog that has the same news that has been running around in the internet.
While it is good to keep up with the trending news and events, having the same content as every blog won't give people a reason to visit your blog because they can get the same information elsewhere.
Find a creative edge to the story; give your readers a new angle to something they have already seen before.
6.
Networking
Finally, learn to work with others.
Your blog can go so far if don't engage with readers and other bloggers.
Create back links by posting your content on other established blogs and websites.
This will give your blog the exposure it needs.
