How Losing Your Job Can Actually Be a Good Thing

Losing your job can be one of the most emotional and sometimes traumatic events a person can experience.
It's bad enough when it happens in a good economy but it can be even worse in hard economic times.
When you get the news there are a dozen or so different things going through your mind.
How am I going to buy school supplies for the kids? How will I pay the mortgage? How will I pay for the repairs to the roof? These are just a few.
As bad as this may seem, it can actually be a blessing in disguise.
There is a saying that goes something like "when one door closes another opens".
Most people rarely if ever think of losing their job as another door opening.
They only see the one that just closed.
However, everything that happens in your life happens for a reason.
Losing your job is life's way of telling you that it's time to pursuit a dream you've always had but forgot about.
Maybe there is something that you are passionate about and wish that you had the time to do but your job always kept you from doing it.
There are a few self-made millionaires(or even billionaires) who became rich because they decided to pursuit a long time dream or passion when they lost their job.
Even if you don't have any idea right away what you want to do or you can't remember what you've always wanted to do, it's not the end.
You don't have to start the very next day.
Take some time to reflect and think about what you want to do.
Think of what you are good at doing and how you can make a business out of it.
My former employers started their own company providing services to the medical industry when the company they worked for went out of business and they were let go.
Their business has been around now for about twenty years and is very successful.
In another case, I have a friend who recently lost his job of twenty-two years.
When he was given the news that he would be let go, he saw that other door opening and opportunity inviting him in.
He had always wanted to start his own business and do something he thought was more meaningful and rewarding.
He saw losing his job as a sign that it was time to pursuit his dream.
He's not a millionaire yet and he might never be but he's doing something he's always wanted to do.
