Taking the family on a trip to the garden centre in your town can either be stressful or stress free.
This can all depend on how well maintained and organized the centre happens to be.
After much research and personal experience, I have compiled the top 5 attributes most desire when searching throughout their local store.
1.
Organized Layout - This can be so frustrating, whether you know what you are looking for or just browsing your options.
If the garden centre is not organized you don't know where to start.
And although it could be very amusing to browse the entire centre, most of us don't have the time or the patience.
Seasonal plants and garden decor should be at the front of the store and everything else in an organized layout.
Large and easy to read signs from all areas of the centre is great.
This way it is easy to find the sections you are looking for and be on your way in no time.
2.
Appealing Landscaping - If you own a garden centre you want to appeal to your customers, that is a no brainer.
The more appealing your landscape, the longer they stay in the store.
The longer customers stay in your store, the more likely they are to purchase your products.
Also, as a customer, we appreciate appealing layouts and design.
Children can become a hassle if they are bored and they will begin picking at the plants and running around the isles.
When the atmosphere of the greenhouse captures their attention, they are much more likely to stay by mom or dads side in awe.
Who doesn't enjoy eye pleasing landscape? 3.
Variety of Plant life & Garden Decor- A trip to the garden centre is not like a trip to the convenience store.
When the effort is made to get to the local garden store, it is so important to find everything on your list.
A variety of plant life and garden decor can help guarantee the satisfaction that every customer leaves happy.
4.
Good Plant Care - This is so important in this industry.
Too many times have I bought plants and two days later it dies because of poor care when it was handled at the garden centre.
Good plant care goes along with appealing landscaping as well.
Any store that specializes in plants should make sure all their plants are cared for properly to attain optimal health.
5.
Knowledgeable Staff - This is especially important if you are not a professional landscape artist.
Most people are just looking to spruce up their yard or gardens with some new plants or landscaping decor.
If the staff does not know what specific plants need - not only do they poorly take care of the plant life within the garden centre, but they are not able to help the customer pick the right plant.
A large percentage of plant deaths are caused because they are not cared for properly, including where they are planted and what they receive.
Staff should know to ask the customer questions like - what types of sunlight are you planting under, what kind of soil is around this area, etc.
All these points are crucial in running a successful local garden shop.
If you have a few garden centres in your area, be sure to look for these attributes when choosing a store.
