How to Organize My Office Workstation
- 1). Clear your workstation of everything except the computer and the phone.
- 2). Move the monitor into a position that is comfortable for you and place it on a monitor stand. If you only use the computer occasionally, place the monitor at the corner of your workstation where you can easily access it, but it is out of the way.
- 3). Sort through the items that were on your workstation and determine what you need within easy reach to do your job.
- 4). Place any item you determined you did not need ready access to in a drawer or out of your workstation. Items such as duplicate staplers, extra binders and multiple pads of paper do not need a home in your workstation.
- 5). Place a pencil cup within reaching distance on your right or left side. Keep the cup stocked with any writing utensil you use.
- 6). Set a desk calendar in front of you. Use the desk calendar to make visual reminders of deadlines and tie your workspace together.
- 7). Place a file holder to the left of your monitor within easy reach.
- 8). Label file folders with specific titles. Avoid labeling files "Inbox" or "To be Filed," as this invites you to deposit paperwork rather than dealing with the papers and putting them away.
- 9). Use a cord organizer to wrap your electrical cables and keep them out of the way.
