The Seven Worst Star Wars Books

103 23
Over the last twenty years there has been a lot of Star Wars books released and I have managed to read most of them.
While there has been some real pearls, they have also been a lot of duds.
Here are some of them.
1.
Planet of Twilight.
This book was painful, so painful that I couldn't read it.
The idea that Luke would fall in love with a substandard character such as Callista irritated me from the start.
Timothy Zahn had created the perfect partner with Mara Jade, and Callista just didn't rate.
Plus the story was labour intensive and unoriginal.
We all knew that Luke and Callista would never end up together so why bother going into so much depth.
Do yourself a favour and miss this book.
In the grand scale of things it doesn't matter to the entire Star Wars story line anyway.
2.
I Jedi.
I not a fan of books that are written in first person narrative.
While I like Michael Stakepole and the X-wing series, this book didn't have the same punch.
It was boring and rehashing half of the story from the Jedi Academy Series (and they were pretty poor).
If you choose to skip this book then you won't miss much.
3.
The Approaching Storm.
I have no idea how this became a book.
Written by Alan Dean Foster, who ghost wrote Star Wars and wrote Splinter of the Mind's Eye (which made the seven best Star Wars books list), this book was just too long and drawn out.
Foster tries to keep the story interesting by continually throwing in plot twist but they do nothing to add to the story and they look just what they are, fillers.
It was a very disappointing book, maybe as a short story it won't have been good, but alas it wasn't to be.
4.
Rogue Planet.
I understand the reason for this book.
With Bantam taking over the licensing rights and starting the New Jedi Order series, they wanted to create links between the NJO and books set between Episodes 1 and 2.
While I give them full credit for their efforts, this book wasn't the best choice.
Confusing and uninteresting would be the best way to explain it.
5.
Cloak of Deception.
If you though that the Phantom Menace was boring because of the politics, then you want to stay away from this.
I got into the second chapter and started looking for else to read.
I know that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but with this you can.
A plain and dole cover, and words to match.
6.
The Crystal Star.
This stars off with Han Solo with a beard and goes downhill.
It's hard to read a story about a star that is slowly turning into a giant crystal.
I know that Star Wars is not very realistic but this was just plain ridiculous.
Vonda N McIntyre was great writing Star Trek, but this was not one of her best.
The only thing it would be best at, is being forgotten.
7.
The New Rebellion.
The only thing I can remember about this book was reading it.
Other than that it was so dull that i can't even tell you what the plot was.
Don't waste your time on this, move on and reading something more outstanding.
I know that over the years there will be standouts and forgettable books.
I will like to see over the next 20 years what other books can be added to the worst of list.
