If you plan on riding a scooter in Kansas, you should know the applicable laws in the state. Many of these laws are similar to motorcycle laws, and are designed to protect vehicle operators, passengers and others. - All scooters must be registered and insured in order to be legally operated in Kansas. A standard driver's license is necessary to drive a scooter. If you do not have an automobile driver's license, you can get a scooter/moped operator's license by providing proof of identity and passing a written and vision test.
- Anyone under the age of 18 who is either a passenger or driver of a scooter must wear a helmet and eye protection. Failure to do so can lead to a $70 fine.
- When operating a scooter at night, your vehicle must have a lamp on the front that gives off a light visible from at least 500 feet away, and a red reflector on the back that can be seen from at least 100 feet away.
