    • 1). Mix 1 part boric acid, often sold under the name Borax, with 1 part pure organic sugar.

    • 2). Leave the mixture in small shallow bowls in the way of the fire ant line and sprinkle it in tighter areas like corners. Line the perimeter with the mixture as well. The fire ants that don't consume the boric acid on the spot will take a few granules to the queen, which will stop the production of more fire ants.

    • 3). Boil 3 gallons of water in an extra large soup pot. Once the water has reached a rolling boil, take it outside immediately and pour over the mound where the fire ants are coming from. This will ensure that the rest of the colony will be wiped out in case none of the ants make it back to the queen with the boric acid granules.
