How to Repair a Click Wheel iPod
- 1). Toggle the hold switch. This means moving from the hold to on positions. Simultaneously hold the center button and menu buttons until you see the Apple logo. This will reset the device.
- 2). Plug the iPod into your computer or a wall outlet with the USB cord and try to reset it again, if Step 1 was unsuccessful. If it does not respond, move the USB cord to the other input in your computer.
- 3). Open iTunes and check if you need a software update. A window will automatically open if there is a newer version of iTunes. If so, click "Okay."
- 4). Select your iPod under the "Devices" list on the left and click "Check for Updates." If there is an iPod software update available, click "Yes" to update. Repeat Step 1 after the update to see if the click wheel responds.
- 5). Click "Restore" in iTunes if your click wheel still is not working. Restoring the iPod will delete your files, which are backed up in iTunes. If the click wheel doesn't respond after you restore the device, make an appointment at your local Apple store.
