How to Check a Bad Sector in an HDD
- 1). Open the Start menu, type "cmd" and then right-click on the "cmd.exe" program that appears.
- 2). Click "Run as administrator" to open the Command Prompt with Administrator privileges.
- 3). Type "chkdsk volume_letter:/r" into the Command Prompt; "volume_letter" is an example in this case, and should not be typed out. Instead, type out the drive letter of the hard drive you want to check.
- 4). Press "Enter" to start the checking and repair process. If any bad sectors are found, you are informed about them through messages posted in the Command Prompt window.
