In the northern hemisphere, autumn, or fall, lasts from September to November. This season of harvest may be best known for the change of colors of leaves from green to shades of yellow and orange. Allium, or onion plants that include onion-, chive- and garlic-related flowering plants, are used in flower beds or borders with designs that range from flowing to sparse. This plant has a tall, fuzzy spike of clustered, rose-purple colored, thistle-like, tiny flowers. - A native wildflower of New Zealand, Australia and Tasmania, craspedia is better known as "billy button" or "woollyhead," and is a member of the daisy family Compositae. This garden flower, which dries well, is bright yellow in color and has a spherical shape, which give floral arrangements a textural and visual interest. Craspedia has a vase life of 10 to 12 days.
