If you have a friend who is working as a firefighter in Canada or who is a Canadian by birth and is working as a firefighter in a country other than Canada, then get him a novelty gift that is related the field. Canadian firefighters operate much like firefighters across the rest of the world. They have stressful, life-threatening jobs, so consider a gift that will encourage your firefighting friend, instill pride, and aid her in relaxing after a long day at work. - Design a customized water bottle for your firefighter friend. Design text and graphics for the bottle that play off of the firefighting theme. An example of a message that you could put on a water bottle is the following: "Proudly fighting Canada's most dangerous fires" with a maple leaf surrounded by flames.
- Purchase or design a novelty T-shirt that bears a Canadian firefighter theme. You can do this through several online vendors. You can choose from short-sleeved and long-sleeved t-shirts. You also might want to consider purchasing a sweatshirt or other fabric apparel items instead of a novelty T-shirt. Your custom message can appear on any of these items. Some examples of messages you might want to include on your t-shirt are the following: "Canadian Firefighter" or "Future Firefighter of Canada."
- Pay for a trip for your firefighting friend to visit the Canadian Fire Fighters Museum. The museum is located in Port Hope, Ontario. So depending on where your friend lives in Canada, you will have to budget for travel expenses such as gas, food and hotel stays. The museum was established in 1984 to "tell the story of fire fighting in Canada on a national basis" according to the museum's official website. Your friend will be able to see fire apparatus, photographs and other archived materials from 1759 to today. The Canadian Fire Fighters Museum is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Victoria Day weekend to Thanksgiving, according to the official website.
- Commission a local artist or an online artist specializing in caricatures to make a personalized piece of artwork for your firefighter friend. You can provide a photo of your friend so that the artist can depict your friend accurately in the caricature. The caricature can display a scene in the typical work life of a Canadian firefighter or it can feature a rendering of the fire station where your friend works. Make sure the Canadian flag is somewhere in the caricature.
