- 1). Choose a unique topic to write about---this will make your blog stand out. The topic should be something that you know a lot about. You'll want to be able to update your blog several times a week, so make sure that your cool subject has lots of room to create new content.
- 2). Choose a cool looking theme. Even if you aren't a master at designing themes, lots of cool themes made by graphic designers exist already and are free. Think about the purpose of your blog and what kind of content it will have. Then try out a few different themes before deciding on a final choice that best fits your blog. If you're unsure, ask your users what they think.
- 3). Enable comments. The coolest blogs have a high level of interactivity. Enabling comments on your blog allows your blog to be a community. Even if you're the only person writing on your blog, users posting regular comments will quickly become a part the atmosphere.
- 4). Integrate your blog with Twitter to allow readers to learn more about you. Keep a special Twitter account just for your blog. If your blog runs on WordPress, a popular and free content management system, install the Twitter Tools plugin so that what you "tweet" on your Twitter account appears on your blog. You can have as many or as few tweets appearing on your front page as you like---just adjust the settings.
- 5). Post polls---they make your blog interactive and allow you to get quantifiable user feedback on both the subject and content of your posts. Put up a different poll every week and announce the results in a post. If your blog runs on WordPress, use the WP Polls plugin to add polls.
