Air Conditioner Cleaning - An Easy Job

There are few things as aggravating as waking up on a warm summer morning only to find that the air conditioner in a home is no longer capable of providing a cool, refreshing breeze.
Many problems associated with A/C units are the result of poor maintenance and could be completely avoided if a property owner would only take the time to occasionally do a little cleaning.
While there are a number of issues associated with air conditioners that require a professional in order to be handled properly, cleaning an air conditioner is something that even the least handy of property owners can do on their own.
Of course, because of differences in the types and sizes of unit used in residential properties, the steps taken to do a little air conditioner cleaning will vary somewhat from one unit to the next.
Likewise, if an air conditioner is in an especially difficult to reach area then it may be best to call on the services of experienced HVAC professionals, you can find many with a quick internet search.
For the vast majority of homeowners, however, accessing an air conditioner and keeping it clean and ready to run is not a difficult task at all.
One of the most important things to do when it comes to this type of cleaning is to regularly change the filter.
Depending on how often the unit is used and the recommendations of the manufacturer, it may be necessary to change or clean the filter on a monthly basis.
Before doing any cleaning of the AC, it should be turned off so that it does not accidentally start during the cleaning process.
Plugging or capping is the next step followed by using a common wet/dry vac to clean out any debris.
The next step in cleaning is to clean the coils within the AC unit.
An especially designed AC cleaner product can be purchased, but common household cleansers may work just as well.
After rinsing all of the cleaner off of the coils, the units should be allowed to dry before being powered back on.
Though it may not be necessary to thoroughly clean the unit on a monthly basis, it is a good idea to give it some attention before a person plans on using it which usually means spending a little time cleaning the air conditioner in the springtime once the weather begins to warm up.
