How to Build Your Own Rock Bubbler

    • 1). Dig a hole big enough to contain a water basin and a small pump. Place the basin --- a small preformed pond basin or a very large plastic bucket --- in the hole, and fill dirt in around the edges so it fits snugly.

    • 2). Put a brick on the bottom of the basin, and set a submersible pump on the brick. Run the power cord for the pump over the side of the basin and camouflage it with shrubs or decorative rocks.

    • 3). Attach a copper water pipe to the pump. Set a galvanized metal mesh grid over the basin and the copper pipe. If the pipe doesn't fit through the mesh, cut a hole for the pipe to poke through.

    • 4). Place a rock on the grid. The rock should have a hole drilled through its center that is just large enough to accommodate the copper pipe. Slide the rock down over the pipe as you place it on the grid.

    • 5). Mark the copper pipe to just below the top of the drilled rock. Check the bubbler fountainhead to be sure it is slightly below the top of the opening in the rock when it fits on the copper pipe. Remove the rock from the pipe and cut the pipe to measure, using a hacksaw.

    • 6). Replace the rock on the pipe and grid. Attach the bubbler fountain. Fill the basin with water, connect the pump to the power source and turn it on. Adjust the fountain so it is performing as planned.

    • 7). Scatter decorative stones and place container plants on the metal grid to hide it from view. When the fountain is on, water will bubble up through the hole in the rock and over the sides to fall into the hidden basin below. Keep the water level high in the basin by using a garden hose to fill it right through the decorative stones and the metal grid.
