Ideas for Scrapping on Canvas

    Memory Boards

    • The process of scrapping on a piece of stretched canvas is identical to the process of paper scrapping. The advantage of using canvas, though, is that you have a wider array of sizes to choose from, from 4-inch-by-4-inch canvases to poster-sized and larger. The larger-sized canvases allow you to include more photos and memorabilia on the wall hanging, and because the piece is designed to hang on a wall or stand on a shelf, you can incorporate bulky or three-dimensional items that wouldn't work in a scrapbook. For example, you can create a decorative piece detailing your entire beach vacation on a canvas, including photos, stickers and 3-D objects such as shells, beads or stones. Create a canvas to display your wedding photo, and include dried flowers and ribbons from the day to embellish the photos.

    Home Decor

    • Scrapping on canvas isn't limited to displaying memories of special events, people or trips. With a canvas and some scrapbooking supplies, create a custom decor piece for a fraction of the cost of art in home-goods stores. For example, paint the edges of the canvas and use decoupage medium to add a sheet of scrapbooking paper that coordinates with the room to the front of the canvas. Cut an inspirational word or phrase from vinyl or paper using a die-cut machine, or use letter stickers or rub-ons. Create several coordinating canvases to group together for an attractive wall display.

    Holiday Decor

    • Use stretched canvas to create custom holiday decor. Paint the canvas in holiday colors, and add holiday themed papers, photos and embellishments. Or, use multiple canvases to spell out a holiday-themed word. For example, for a Halloween decoration, paint the canvases in black, orange or purple and add letters to spell out a themed word such as "Boo" or "Spooky." Create canvases for multiple holidays and switch them out throughout the year.

    Albums

    • Stretched canvas also makes an attractive and durable album cover. Purchase two canvases in the same size, accordion fold the pages of the scrapbook, and attach the paper to the canvas with a heavy-duty adhesive. You could also attach the two canvases together with inexpensive hinges from the hardware store. If you attach two or more pieces of canvas together with hinges, you can also create a custom piece for a desk or tabletop.
