How to Destroy Strawberry Plants
- 1). Examine the plant thoroughly, following the vines to find where the roots have spread. Unless the roots are destroyed, the strawberry plants will return.
- 2). Clip apart the vines with shears, leaving only the root sections that are below ground.
- 3). Dig around each root section with a trowel, removing as much of it as possible. Continue digging out the plants as they regrow until they stop recovering.
- 4). Isolate the root areas of the vines by cutting off the surface runners. Spray the remaining pieces with weed killer, being very careful to avoid surrounding plants. The spray won't damage other plants as it works its way below ground.
