How to Refill Print Cartridges
- 1). Lay several layers of paper towels on your work surface. Place the print cartridge that you are working with on the paper towels.
- 2). Locate the fill hole or holes on your ink cartridge. Depending on your printer model, look for a plastic or rubber plug on the top of the cartridge or locate a small plastic stopper on the side of the cartridge, towards the top. Some models feature tiny pinholes on the top of the cartridge.
- 3). Remove any label or sticker that covers the fill holes.
- 4). Open the fill hole or holes. For print cartridges that have a plug, grasp a paper clip with a pair of pliers. Heat the paper clip with a match or lighter. Plunge the hot metal into the plug, melting a hole in it. If your model has a different setup, use the tools included in the refill kit to unscrew, pull out the cap from, or enlarge the hole or holes.
- 5). Plunge the needle of the syringe into the container with the refill ink using the paper towels to protect all surfaces. Fill the syringe with one ink color by raising the plunger on the syringe. Ensure that you are placing the correct ink color in the correct cartridge or fill hole.
- 6). Place the needle of the syringe into the fill hole of your ink cartridge. Push the plunger slowly towards the needle end, releasing the ink into the print cartridge. Empty the syringe completely or stop when the cartridge is full. Some ink may seep out the fill hole when the cartridge is full.
- 7). Remove the syringe from the ink cartridge and set aside for disposal.
- 8). Close the fill hole. Replace the screw plug, if applicable. For holes with a plastic or rubber plug, drop a spot of hot glue on the opening. Spread with the now-cooled paper clip to ensure that the seal is airtight.
- 9). Hold the filled print cartridge above the paper towel, allowing it to drip slightly.
- 10
Let the filled ink cartridge sit overnight to allow time for any leaks to become apparent.
