    Rear Suspension

    • 1). Jack up the rear of the truck, and then support the frame with jack stands. Unbolt and remove the truck's rear wheels. As soon as the wheels are removed, you will see where the rear suspension blocks are to be mounted. Just behind the rear drum brake is a set of two U-bolts that mount the truck's axle to the leaf spring. This is where the lowering block is mounted on each side of the truck.

    • 2). Position the jack underneath the truck's rear axle, and then actuate the jack to apply slight upward pressure on the axle.

    • 3). Unbolt the truck's U-bolts using the socket set. These fittings secure the axle to the truck's leaf spring. The U-bolts can be discarded, as the suspension block kit includes new replacement U-bolts. Jack up the axle a few inches to provide clearance for the suspension block.

    • 4). Fit the suspension blocks between the axle and the leaf spring. You will notice a small, 1/2-inch pin in the top of the mounting block, and a 1/2-inch hole in the bottom. These correspond to mounting points on the axle and the leaf spring to ensure that the lowering block is mounted correctly. Slip the replacement U-bolts over the top of the axle, and then down through the mounting plate at the base of the leaf spring. Secure the bolts in place with the socket wrench. The operation is the same on both the driver's and passenger's side of the truck.

    • 5). Reinstall the truck's wheels and tires, and then remove the jack stands and lower the rear of the truck to the ground.

    Front Suspension

    • 1). Jack up the front of the truck, and then support the frame with jack stands. Unbolt and remove the front wheels and tires. Before beginning, familiarize yourself with the layout of the front suspension. The spindle and brake assembly are closest to you, with the brake caliper situated toward the passenger compartment of the truck. At the front of the spindle assembly is located the front tie rod. At the top of the assembly and bottom of the assembly, you will find the upper and lower ball joint bolts, respectively. The entire assembly is mounted to the frame with two steel structures. The upper is the upper control arm, the lower is the lower control arm. The shock absorber and spring are mounted to a flange on the lower control arm.

    • 2). Position the jack under the lower control arm of the truck, and then compress the spring by raising the lower control arm. Install the spring compressor tool onto the spring. This is a pair of clamps with jaws that slide over the spring coils and hold it together.

    • 3). Unbolt the shock absorber from the lower control arm by removing the two bolts that you find when you look up at the bottom of the lower control arm. Next, unbolt the lower control arm from the spindle.

    • 4). Unbolt the flanges that hold the spring in place at both the top and bottom mounting positions, and then gently lower the jack to release the lower control arm from the suspension assembly.

    • 5). Slide the spring carefully out of the spring assembly, and then remove the spring compressor tool. Install the spring compressor onto the new lowering spring, and then slide this spring into the place where the old spring rested. Reinstall the lower control arm onto the spindle, mount the spring to the spring retainer with its mounting flange, and then bolt the shock absorber back in place. Finally, release the tension on the spring, reinstall the wheels and tires, and lower the truck to the ground.
