How to Organize a Video Memorial Tribute

    • 1). Place a sticky note on the back of the photo or on the DVD case as you receive photos and video from family and friends, noting who gave it you. This will make returning the photo or DVD much simpler, although not everyone will request that their donations be returned.

    • 2). Sort the photos into three piles: keepers, maybes and definitely not. Include milestones and everyday photos. Try not to be repetitive by including photos that are similar. For example, if your loved one vacationed in the same place every year it isn't necessary to include several of these photos.

    • 3). Screen the videos and note the time code. Take your second-color sticky and place it on the DVD case with notation of the time code that you would like to use.

    • 4). Create the order in which your selections will be played. General chronological order is the simplest method of organization, starting with childhood photos and ending with the most recent. When the order has been decided, place the second-colored stickies on the backs of photos and number them 1, 2, 3 and so on. Mark slots in the sequence for the DVDs as well.

    • 5). Choose music for your tribute video that will not overpower the video. The amount of music you need will depend on how many photos and clips of video are used.

    • 6). Send the materials for the memorial tribute to your editor. He will scan in all non-digital images. Video clips and digital images will then be integrated into an editing program. Since you have done all of the organization, the editor is now going to place everything onto a time line in the order you specified. The amount of time spent on each still image will be a judgement call by the editor. He can add movement and effects to the still images to make them more interesting.
