How Do I Adjust the Door Lock on a 1988 Chevy Pickup?

    • 1). Press in the door panel to gain access to the window retainer clip. Pry out the clip with a flat-head screwdriver.

    • 2). Pull off the door lock knob. Pry out the armrest of the door with a flat-head screwdriver.

    • 3). Remove the retaining screw that holds the assist strap from the upper corner of the door panel.

    • 4). Pry out all of the trim retainers along the edge of the door with a flat-head screwdriver.

    • 5). Disconnect the outside handle locking rod from the locking mechanism. Remove the four screws securing the lock to the truck to loosen it. Set the lock in the position you wish and reinstall the screws. Make sure the locking rod is functioning properly before you reconnect it.

    • 6). Reattach the door panel and its trim retainers. Reinstall all of the door components.
