- The Utah Department of Motor Vehicles offers locations in 29 counties. Most counties only offer one office location, but the counties of Beaver, Davis, Duchesne, Emery, Iron and Millard each offer two locations. Salt Lake and Summit counties each offer three locations. Only the Davis County Kaysville location offers Saturday vehicle renewal services and many of the locations remain closed on Friday as part of the four-day work week proposal implemented by the State of Utah.
- The Utah Department of Motor Vehicles offers five online services through its official website. These include express renewal, impounded vehicle service, personalized plate search, "watch your car" program and IFTA, IRP & SFU filing and payment. The express renewal service allows residents with expiring registrations to quickly renew their vehicle registrations online. Impounded vehicle service lets residents locate an impounded vehicle by vehicle identification number (VIN), license plate or state impound form number. The personalized plate search function determines whether a vanity license plate's availability. The "watch your car" program partners vehicle owners and Utah's law enforcement to reduce incidents of auto theft and improve the chances of locating stolen vehicles. IFTA, IRP & SFU filing and payment services provide a quick method of paying vehicle taxes and fees online through the Department of Motor Vehicles website.
- When residents move to, from or within the State of Utah, they need to contact the Department of Motor Vehicles. Contact methods include email, postal mail, telephone or in-person at one of the county offices. Properly notifying the Department of Motor Vehicles ensures that residents are taxed by a county only while living in a particular county. Residents also update vehicle registration, license information and voter registration information through the Department of Motor Vehicles.
- On the Spot Renewal offers Utah residents a one-stop easy renewal option through officially recognized inspection stations throughout the state. As of March 2010, the State of Utah recognized 359 On the Spot locations where residents have the opportunity to take care of vehicle safety inspection, emissions and registration all at once. Due to the convenience of offering all three services, the State of Utah allows these stations to charge a nominal fee to customers.
- In December 2009, the State of Utah no longer accepted driver's license renewals through mail or Internet applications. Instead, all applicant must physically present themselves at a Department of Motor Vehicles office location. Required information for renewals and new license applicants include evidence of original license (if applicable), proof of identity and legal residence, Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), and two proofs of Utah residence address. Drivers who changed their name from previous licenses must also provide proof of their legal name change.
