How to Remove & Replace Dashboard Lights in a 1996 Toyota Corolla
- 1). Locate the two screws that secure the instrument panel surround to the dashboard. The surround, made of black plastic, needs to be removed to access the instrument bulbs.
- 2). Remove the two screws that hold the cover in place with the screwdriver.
- 3). Pull the black plastic surround away from the instrument panel by gripping it from the top and pulling it down slightly. When it has partly come away from the instrument panel, grip it on both sides and pull it backward.
- 4). Undo the instrument panel, retaining screws with the screwdriver. There are two at the top of the instrument panel, and one located at the bottom.
- 5). Lift the instrument panel gently upward to reveal the wiring harness, but do not pull it completely out. The instruments in the panel are still connected to the wiring harness at this point.
- 6). Uncouple the three wiring connectors that hold the wiring harness to the instrument panel. With the wires disconnected, remove the panel to access the bulbs.
- 7). Remove the blown bulb by pulling it by its green plastic cover. Replace it with a bulb of the same type and energy rating.
- 8). Reconnect the wiring harness to the rear of the instrument panel. Remember to clip all three connectors together.
- 9). Push the instrument panel back into the dashboard. Take care not to force it, although it may be a tight fit.
- 10
Do up the three retaining screws with the screwdriver. The instrument panel should be securely fixed and not move about. - 11
Push the instrument cover surround back over the instrument panel. Slide the sides in first then push the top into place. - 12
Reinsert the two retaining screws with the screwdriver. Test the lights by turning on the ignition and switching on the headlights.
