Updated March 07, 2014.
Definition:
Glossophobia is the fear of public speaking -- one of the most common performance-related phobias. When symptoms of glossophobia are extreme and interfere with your daily functioning, a diagnosis of social anxiety disorder (SAD) may be warranted. In addition to traditional treatment for SAD, people with glossophobia often turn to organizations such as Toastmasters or the use of self-help strategies for overcoming speech anxiety.
