- 1). Launch the "Start" menu and right-click "My Computer." Select "Properties" from the context menu to launch the System Properties screen. You may alternatively access this screen by clicking "Start," launching the Control Panel and selecting "System" from the list of available applets.
- 2). Browse to the "Advanced" tab and click "Settings" in the Performance section. On the next screen, select the "Advanced" tab and click "Change" under the Virtual Memory category.
- 3). Select the hard disk drive you wish to modify by assigning additional virtual memory. Select "Custom Size" from the Paging File Size section. Input the desired amount of space in megabytes you wish to assign as virtual memory. You may set a minimum amount for Windows XP to use as needed, as well as a maximum amount. Click "Set" to apply your changes, and then click "OK" to exit the System Properties screen.
