How to Keep Unleavened Bread
- 1). Remove all leavened bread from the home before bringing in the unleavened bread. Items like loaves of bread, pasta and rices can be placed in a box and stored outside the home, like in a shed or garage. Or you can donate the leavened items to a soup kitchen.
- 2). Clean the home to symbolically rid it of any possible crumbs of leavened bread. This process is traditionally finished by going around the home and using a feather and candle to search for crumbs in dark corners and sweep them away with the feather.
- 3). Bring in plenty of boxes of matzah, which are flat crackers that can be used in lieu of sliced bread. A few pieces of matzah are typically placed on a matzah plate and put on the table for the traditional seder dinner.
- 4). Place the leftover matzah pieces in a matzah box, found at most Judaica or specialty stores. The matzah box will keep the pieces fresh, preventing spoiling or staleness.
