How to Change Bosch Icon Wiper Refills
- 1). Shift the vehicle into park or neutral and set the emergency brake. Roll up the windows. Add dish washing soap to a bucket and fill it with water. Use a sponge to clean the front windshield thoroughly with soap and water. Rinse the windshield of all soap residue then use a clean towel to dry the glass. You do not want any sand or other debris on the glass when installing new wiper blades.
- 2). Pull one of the wiper blade arms straight up and backwards until it locks in the open position past the spring tension. Place a large piece of cardboard on the windshield directly under the wiper arm end. This will keep the blade arm from unlocking and striking the glass. Use one hand to hold the wiper arm while you depress the small tab on the underside of the old wiper blade.
- 3). Use the tip of a flat head screwdriver to push the tab in if you cannot manage enough pressure with your thumb or finger. While depressing it, pull the wiper blade down, parallel with the wiper arm until it snaps free. Discard the old blade. Turn the replacement blade upside down and look at the small plastic weather shield on the underside. Depress both sides of the weather shield and pull it up into the open position.
- 4). Slide the refill blade onto the wiper arm by fitting the small hook onto the end of the wiper arm. Make sure it seats in place. Close the weather shield until it snaps back into position. Remove the cardboard and gently lower the wiper blade arm down onto the windshield surface. Make sure the refill blade sits tight on the wiper arm and fits over the curved profile of the window.
- 5). Move to the other side of the vehicle. Remove the old wiper blade as you did the first one. Use the same procedure to install the new Bosch wiper blade. Be certain to lay the cardboard down on the window to prevent accidental breakage.
