Intelligence is a highly-valued trait in modern society, but it is far from clear what parameters should be used to measure it. A few tests have been developed by experts, but other specialists have started to question them. Creativity, it is argued, should also be measured because it allows people to do well in life. They also contend that it can be learned. For home viewers, finding inspiration is easy with satellite TV channels constantly bringing new ideas into your life.

Network television programs have normally been about storytelling. Both sitcoms and drama series are focused on sharing the stories of fictional characters, many times based on real-life events. While they might make you reflect on contentious issues in modern-day society, these shows are not normally about creating new visions of things. Instead, it is the spate of reality programming and specialized channels that have started to draw attention to originality. This is especially true in the fields of culinary arts, fashion, and home design.

In each of the fields, creativeness has always been a valued principle. However, the latest programs now let home viewers access these exclusive worlds via satellite TV. When it comes to culinary arts, there are entire channels devoted to bringing you chefs that have unique combinations of ingredients and tastes that will please your palate - if, of course, you can replicate the dish in your own kitchen. If not, you will still be left with new knowledge about cooking. Hopefully, this will inspire you to spend time in the kitchen and even think up new dishes.

The fashion world also has a lot to offer through standard and HD programming choices alike. 'Project Runway' has become a staple for many, attracting aspiring fashion designers as well as people who just want to get new ideas for how they dress. The challenges that the program poses to designers also make you think outside the box. For example, in one show, contestants have to transform previously-worn wedding dresses into updated versions that can be worn again. While your sewing skills may not be up to such challenges, you can appreciate the value of reworking clothes and looking for new combinations in your wardrobe.

Home design has also reached new heights of creativity on satellite TV channels. One program that has only been around a couple of years is 'Design Star.' It shares some similarities with 'Project Runway,' but places more emphasis on group challenges so they all try to be good sports throughout the season. Some episodes, however, give individuals the chance to shine. In one show, each designer is given a white room with basic furniture, and they must transform it into a fresh new space. The hitch is that the only resources they use must come from a supermarket. While some fail to live up to the challenge, many others do so and they create astonishing results including apples decorating walls. Next time you take on a project around the house, you might be inspired to think outside the box. While tacking apples up on the wall is probably a bad idea, using nontraditional materials can give a space a whole new look.
