How to Hang Holiday Lights
- 1). Choose where you want to hang your lights. Gutters, windows and door frames are easy places to start.
- 2). Locate any outdoor electrical outlets, and ensure that they are 120 volts and have a working ground-fault circuit interruptor (GFCI). A GFCI is an electrical outlet with a reset button, which allows it to shut off in cases of inequal input or output of electric current.
- 3). Clean the surfaces you have chosen with a damp cloth soaked in warm, soapy water.
- 4). Test the lights to make sure that all the bulbs light up.
- 1). Remove the adhesive backing from one of the plastic mounting squares.
- 2). Attach the square where you want to pin the lights by pressing it firmly.
- 3). Insert a cable tie halfway into the vertical slots on the mounting square, from top to bottom.
- 4). Hold the lighting wire in place in the middle of the mounting square, and secure by zipping the cable tie around it. Pull the cable tie tight, but leave a little wiggle room for the lights.
- 5). Cut off the end of the cable tie with scissors.
- 6). Repeat about every 6 to 12 inches until all of your lights are mounted.
